Our Story

Bhutanese, Through and Through

Gahyul founder with guests

Gahyul means "Land of Happiness" a name that reflects the feeling we hope every guest takes home.

Founded in 2019 in Thimphu, Gahyul Expeditions is a family-run travel company led by third-generation Bhutanese guides. We believe the most meaningful journeys are never rushed. They unfold through genuine conversations, quiet moments, and the people who call Bhutan home.

Whether you're seeking cultural immersion, spiritual discovery, or time in Bhutan's extraordinary landscapes, we create journeys that are deeply personal, thoughtfully paced, and rooted in authentic local knowledge.

Authenticity

No staged performances — access to daily life, as it actually happens.

Sustainability

Small groups, low footprint, and full support of Bhutan's conservation policy.

Craftsmanship

Every itinerary is drafted and redrafted by hand until the pacing feels right.

Personal Attention

One point of contact from first enquiry to the last day of your trip.

Our Commitment

High Value, Low Impact — Bhutan's tourism policy, and ours

Bhutan is the world's only carbon-negative country, and it intends to stay that way. Every international visitor contributes a Sustainable Development Fee that funds free healthcare, free education, and reforestation — long after your trip ends.

We built Gahyul around this policy, not around it. That means smaller groups, unhurried itineraries, and a genuine limit on how many guests we take each season — so the kingdom stays exactly as worth visiting the next time.
